“Plas Hen” (The Old Court) was the original 15th century manor house of Caerynwch. The current owners can trace their family back to Bleddyn ap Cynfyn, Cadwgan and Madog (Lord of Nannau).

Records from 1650 show that Caerynwch was in the ownership of Robert Vaughan ap Tydur Fychan (d. 1693) who married Margret Vaughan (daughter of Hengwrt). The house then descended through the female line by marriage to the Humphreys and again through marriage to the Richards Family (Catherine Humphreys marrying Sir Richard Richards of Coed in 1785).

The current Georgian house of Caerynwch was built by Baron Richards in 1780 when the former building changed to “Plas Hen”.
Thank you to the Richards family for the information and access to Plas Hen. You can read and see more at Caerynwch.com. The main house and Plas Hen are available as B&B and self-catering accommodation.
